A Fast-food Restaurant Chain Serves Up Digital Signage
Location: South-East Asia
Introduction
The fast-food restaurant chain is a fast-paced industry focused on customer satisfaction. Restaurant patrons must be kept informed and continually provide further business opportunities like group activities, price promotions and special events. Therefore, it’s getting popular for fast-food restaurant chains to use digital signage technology to engage their customers on a deeper level, and to provide time-sensitive promotional information while entertaining them about customers killing time in the queue and the dining area.
A fast-food chain in South-East Asia adopted network managed Digital Signage System two years ago for storefront digital media campaigns. Originally, this company adopted commercial-grade PCs as the hardware platform. However, this commercial system is unreliable and suffered frequent down-time. Advertising revenue is lost as a result and causes intense frustration with the end-user of this Digital Signage System. In addition, the current signage system cannot support the current market demand for playback of High-Definitionscontent.
Solutions
As the previous signage system falls short of the expected reliability and stability, this fast-food chain decided to phase-in Advantech Digital Signage solution. Advantech meets and exceeds customer’s expectation by offering the following:
- Compact-size industrial-grade digital signage player based on the DSA-3300 series. The DSA-3300 can support High-Definition Video (up to 720p) and is capable of integrating an optional TV-Tuner to offer live TV content for the Digital Signage
- Robust operating system based on Windows XP Embedded with Enhanced Write Filtering (EWF) and Watchdog Timer
- Powerful and cost efficient CampaignManagerTM digital signage software developed by Advantech’s software partner.
Our client decided to apply their new digital signage network as a communications and entertainment tool: the main goal is to delight customers and help them to enjoy their meals inside the restaurant. Video contents were narrowcast to the new digital signage network. The display media include MPEG 2-based high-definition advertising clips, live TV programs and sporting events. RSS feeds are also created from the content provider’s dedicated RSS server. RSS content is useful for revenue generating text-based classified advertisement, and it’s wonderful for displaying important real-time messages like news clips or weather reports.
