The RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) subsystem provides more reliable and larger capacity data storage than a single hard disk drive. Providing an economical SCSI-to-IDE RAID architecture, up to six 3.5" EIDE HDDs can be grouped in the RAID-800I to function as a small/medium capacity single disk for a host system. Host Independent and OS Independent Since the RAID-800I disk array is a stand-alone subsystem, handling the RAID-800I is as simple as handling a single SCSI HDD. It can be driven by any standard Ultra Wide SCSI adapter card. No special OS software driver is needed, so there are no compatibility problems. Hot-swap, Auto-rebuild, Hot-spare The RAID-800I's disk array subsystem protects against disk drive failure. It allows one HDD failure without affecting the system's data integrity. The failed HDD can be hot-swapped with a good HDD on-line, and lost data will be automatically rebuilt in the background without disturbing the system's operation. Users can also specify one of the HDDs as a spare one in advance, thus enabling the RAID-800 to use the spare HDD to recover data automatically (hot-spare) should a failed HDD be detected. RAID Controller The RAID-800I controller provides four operation buttons and an LCD display window for users to adjust the RAID parameters and monitor the RAID status. Quick Set-up To reduce setup time and increase user friendliness the RIAD-800I uses the "one-minute" quick setup system. By using the four easy-operation buttons and LCD console the RAID-800I system can be set up very quickly. Over 80% of applications can be set up using the simplified "easy-setup" functions. Core RAID-800I functions can be controlled with the quick set-up system. One such function is the alarm system. This monitors all the RAID-800I's critical components, including fan, power supply, and HDD. The alarm system can be set to go off when a system failure occurs. The alarm then triggers the remote notification system which then sends out pager or fax machine alerts, this too can be installed with the "Quick Set-Up" function. Multiple-user Configuration RAID-800I also provides advanced system functions, including functions for mapping different host LUNs (Logical Unit Numbers), and Slicing (partitioning) of RAID disk array. This is so different partitions of the RAID disk array can be used for different application software on the same host computer. Cost-effective and High-performance This host-independent RAID-800I disk array uses inexpensive IDE HDDs. A maximum of six-IDE hard disk drive can be installed and configured as RAID level 0, 1, 0+1 and 5. This makes the price 30 to 50% lower than traditional SCSI HDDs. The Ultra-DMA (33 MB/sec) interface between the HDDs and controller gives the RAID-800I the best speed performance, the Ultra Wide SCSI host interface makes the RAID-800I a truly host/OS independent system. | ||||||||||||||||
