UL2601-1/EN60601-1 approved, offers integrators full-featured I/O
and expansion slot (PCI/PCMCIA) capabilities, plus a high
brightness/high contrast 15” touch screen. With an emphasis on
dependable, safe and quiet operation and the ability to seamlessly
integrate into any environment (802.11b wireless supported), the
POC-153, with its intuitive touch screen interface, is a versatile
point-of-care solution. Advantech
sees the growing movement towards “real-time, paperless and
film-free” medical environments, with patient monitoring, record
keeping and imaging leading the way.

Medical Vertical Market Needs
 Advantech
is making it easier for hospital system integrators to incorporate
panel computers into their existing or new system configurations.
Electronic products for medical use must be designed for safety,
minimum interference with other electronic devices and provide
military-grade reliability. Conforming to UL2601-1 for the United
States and EN60601-1  for Europe eliminates regulation concerns. The
15” TFT high-brightness (350 cd/m2 & 500:1 contrast
ratio) LCD display is ideal for imaging applications such as
intra-oral and endoscopy as well as enables the POC-153 to be
integrated into equipment, such as ultrasound scanners for image
acquisition, processing and display. There are four serial ports and
one parallel port, two USB ports as well as two type II PCMCIA
slots. The PCI expansion slot can support a wide variety of support
cards such as Video capture or A/D converter card, increasing the
POC-153’s flexibility. The POC-153 supports socket 370 based
Pentium III/Celeron/VIA C3 CPUs and Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000,
ME and is suitable for PACS, DICOM and HIS applications, which are being
accepted by increasingly more governments to foster eMedical
innovation.

The
POC-153 is an ideal device for monitoring systems linked to patients
and transferring this information to a central server in real time.
For patient monitoring, the POC-153 allows nursing stations to
centrally monitor patients’ vital signs as well as allow for
record keeping and data storage. Designed
to resist spill and water damage with a protected LCD, sealed ports
and card slots, the POC-153 is perfect for monitoring systems linked
to patients, lab and test equipment, image processing applications
or can be integrated into many proprietary systems. Bedside
devices such as infusion pumps, ventilators, ECGs and EEGs can link
with the POC-153 allowing real time conditions to be monitored more
efficiently. Lab and test equipment can be integrated with the
POC-153 to automatically process and transfer data and results via
LAN as well as automatically send notifications and trigger alarm
events. The POC-153 can serve as a data/image capture and storage
device to display diagnostic results. A dentist can use the POC-153
with an intra-oral video system to display and diagnose patients’
conditions as well as store patient history and information. The
POC-153 is a scalable solution designed to handle the real time
monitoring needs found in today’s medical environments.
