New Windows® CE Ready Panel PC is Both Economical and Time Saving
June 2000
Taipei, Taiwan - Taipei, Taiwan, June, 2000 - Advantech today announced its newest Panel PC of the PPC-102 series, the Windows® CE Ready Panel PC. The new products are ready-to-run Windows® software and hardware platforms. Windows® CE Ready Panel PC already comes with the pre-configured Windows® CE Image. There will be no need to waste any time or energy developing the on-board device drivers or need to use the Platform Builder to build the Windows® CE Image. Advantech has already done this. All that one needs to do is to develop one's own Windows® CE applications.
Benefits
The Windows® CE Ready Panel PC offers the developer various types of benefits. It will definitely save time and money. Developing Windows® CE drivers and customizing Windows® CE OS Image is not that easy for it is very time consuming. The pre-configured Windows® CE Image supports the on-board devices, so it will save one lots of time. The Windows® CE Image, application programs, and data can all be stored on a small capacity and cheaper Flash Disk instead of a typical hard disk. This will make the whole system much more stable and cheaper. The bundled Windows® CE license is also cheaper than Windows 95/98 or Windows NT. Windows® CE also supports a subset of the Win32 API, Visual C++ and Visual Basic programming, familiar Windows application development paradigm and tools. All this will help your system to be more robust. Of course, you will also get a lower Total Cost of Ownership and a better Time to Market.
Features
By using Windows® CE Ready Panel PC, the developer will also find a large amount of features attached to it. The pre-configured Windows® CE OS Image includes web browser and Windows-like Shell and Desktop. It also comes with Windows® CE 2.12 full version license. The platform SDK will also give developers the ability to write Windows® CE applications. SDK supports the popular Visual C++ and Visual Basic Programming.
Advantech also offers some features that doesn't exist on default Windows® CE x86 platform. These include an Auto Launch application function and a persistent registry solution. The Auto Launch application function allows you to launch your applications without rebuilding the Windows® CE Image. The persistent registry solution allows you to store registry settings on Flash Disk. You will also receive a full version of the Getting Started manual on CD.
Unlimited Amount of Applications
The fact that the Windows® CE Ready Panel PC is suitable for many types of applications makes it both extremely flexible and competitive. Among the many applications used include Web-based kiosks, POI (Point of Information) terminals and HMI (Human Machine Interface).
Specifications
This series comes with hardware which is common to Advantech's PPC-102. It supports Intel® 233 MHz MMX CPU and 32 MB DRAM. It includes a solid-state disk (SDD) using DiskOnChip® or IDE Flash Disk, 16 MB. The software being used is Windows® CE 2.12 full version (English version). The devices being supported include a 10/100Base-T Ethernet networking controller, a VGA controller, a PS/2 keyboard, a PS/2 mouse, serial ports, a parallel port, and a 1.44 MB floppy drive.
