Super High Speed Panel PCs
Advantech's new panel PCs achieve higher performance by using CeleronTM processors and offering a variety of user friendly touchscreens

March 17, 2000

Advantech has just recently introduced its new panel PCs, the PPC-123T and the PPC-153T. Both of these multi-functional panel PCs are quite similar to their predecessors, the PPC-120T/150T. They will continue the PPC family tradition for being the ideal solution for information appliances, indoor and outdoor kiosks and a host of other applications. There is, however, a notable difference in this series of panel PCs. Instead of being Pentium® MMX processor based, these two panel PCs now use Celeron™ processors up to 500 MHz. Using Celeron™ processors allows the PPC-123T/153T series to cost-effectively offer higher processor speeds. Increasing product performance while controlling costs is another way Advantech adds value to its product lines. The PPC-123T/153T series is a good example of this effort.

Multi-featured Panel PCs

Both the PPC-123T and PPC-153T are equipped with a variety of features that make these panel PCs high performance, multi-media computers. Besides being high-speed Celeron™ processor based PCs, these panel PCs have a slot for SDRAM up to 256 MB and support for a DVD-ROM drive. There is also a 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface for network capability and one expansion slot for a PCI/ISA half-size card. The watchdog timer, power management and other on-board monitoring features make these systems very secure and stable. These capabilities are perfect for rigorous 24 hour a day use in unattended environments.

Multiple Touchscreen Options

The PPC-123T offers two touchscreen choices: resistive and capacitive. The PPC-153T, however, offers a third SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) touchscreen choice in addition to resistive and capacitive. The multiple touchscreen options provide system integrators with the flexibility to develop their systems according to different environmental and application requirements. The analog resistive touchscreens deliver drift-free operation and are impervious to environmental conditions such as liquid spills, splashes and humidity. The capacitive touchscreens are scratch and wear resistant, ideal for high traffic and heavy-duty applications. The SAW touchscreens provide high light transmission, so they can give clear, sharp images.

Useful Applications

Due to their multi-functional nature, both the PPC-123T and the PPC-153T are quite versatile. Each can be wall, panel, swing-arm or desk mounted. They can also be used for all kinds of kiosks and information terminals where users can see advertisements, make purchases, access information, send e-mail and even browse the Internet.

Availability

Pricing information and sample orders will be available from January 2000. If you are looking for a panel PC solution that can handle your most demanding multimedia applications, take a look at the PPC-123T/153T series from Advantech.
