Medical-Grade Computing Platforms Coming to Market

 Taipei, Taiwan - Advantech recently introduced it's 15", 12.1" and 10.4" medical-certified Panel Computer series. These medical grade Panel Computers are UL2601-1/EN60601-1 approved that enable them an ideal and secure point-of-care solution for the patients and hospital practitioners.
An Ideal Interface for Healthcare Integration
Electronics products for medical use must be designed for safety, minimum interaction with other electronic devises, and for military-grade reliability. More specifically, they must conform to UL2601-1 in the United States and EN60601-1 in Europe. The goal of these standards is to ensure all medical electronic products provide a high level of safety for healthcare professionals and patients. By offering medically certified Panel Computers, Advantech has also made it easier for hospital system integrators to incorporate the medical Panel Computer series into their existing or new system configurations. They do not need to focus their time with issues of medical regulations for their computing needs--Advantech takes care of this issue for them by providing convenience.
Applications
Advantech's medical Panel Computers are suitable for monitoring systems transmitting a patient's vital information to central servers and central stations. From a patient's beside, the physician and the nursing personnel can monitor in detail the patient's information from our Panel computer connected to the hospital equipment. For laboratory and test equipment that need to communicate diagnostic data with a central server or office systems via LAN, the network-ready Panel Computer can be integrated into the hospital system and act as the controller to dispatch the results of the data for clinical decisions.
Key Features
The PPC-153M/150M series has a 15" XGA TFT LCD display with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768. The PPC-123M/120M and PPC-103T feature a 12.1" and 10.4" SVGA TFT LCD display. They provide appropriate choices for graphics/image intensive interfaces that require clarity and richness. The on-board Ethernet interface of Advantech Panel Computer supports 10/100Base-T networking. It enables timely information or data to transfer directly via Internet or Intranet. By using a wireless LAN PCMCIA card, the Panel Computer becomes a suitable device for real-time notification of vital situation of the patient.
In addition, the fully integrated I/O arrangement of Advantech Panel Computers allows system integrators to add peripherals of their choice. There are four COM ports, one parallel port, two USB connectors, a VGA port, and game port providing connections to external peripherals. The 15" and 12.1" Panel Computers can accept one half-size PCI/ISA expansion card.
