The main idea is to keep people healthy and out of the hospital or long-term care institutions. After turning on the system power, the patient can visit their doctors simply by touching the on-screen icon via their computer monitor. Since many chronically ill people are elderly, the system is made to be user friendly. Some elderly people don't have experience using computers and may be afraid to try. The developer creates three program icons on the monitor and makes them big enough to be seen, touched and easily used by the elderly.
The Home Healthcare System features a touch Panel PC by Advantech, the PPC-150T-RT. Bundled with proprietary software, the PPC-150T-RT can be integrated with up to 12 healthcare test and measurement devices, including a blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, and an electronic stethoscope. Running a Windows operating system, the PPC-150T-RT is a slim computer integrated with a 15" TFT XGA LCD display and resistive touchscreen. With four COM ports, one parallel port and two USB jacks, the PPC-150T-RT can be connected to a wide range of peripherals and devices, such as a CCD camera. It also supports a half-size PCI/ISA expansion card. In addition, this product has audio, video and networking capabilities. Its removable front panel complies with the IP 65 standard, making it dust and liquid resistant.
