Port Klang is the main seaport in Malaysia and handles most of the cargo containers coming to or leaving the country. The port has three main terminals - one of which is the Klang Container Terminal (KCT). It handles about 25% of the total port throughput and has 11 cranes located throughout the KCT area. Each crane stands more than 100-foot high and is run from the crane cabin by one operator.
Quantity: 13 units PPC-120T (11 on-line, 2 spare).
A PPC-120T unit was installed in each crane to serve as an operator-friendly interface, able to receive orders from the main control room on the ground. Half of the cranes were equipped with fiber optic lines while the rest used spread spectrum radio for data transfer.
Since the PPC-120T had built-in Ethernet capabilities and multiple COM ports, KCT found it extremely easy to link up with their LAN.
Moreover, every crane was subdued to vibrations (6G), so every unit had to be mounted on a vibration-dampening base to reduce stress on the hard disk.
A swing arm mounted PPC-120T unit with Windows 95. The swing arm was specially designed to reduce vibrations and fixed in front of the operator's seat.
