The Industrial Automation Group of Advantech introduces the EKI-1121L and 1122L RISC-based Industrial Communication Controllers. Both have received the Class I, Division 2 UL certification for use in hazardous environments and offer versatile communication capabilities ideal for embedded applications.
These controllers provide dual auto-sensing 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports for network redundancy and one or two software-selectable RS-232/422/485 serial ports. They use the ARM7 RISC CPU to fulfill data compression or protocol conversion requirements. There’s a built-in 8 MB flash ROM and 16 MB SDRAM that provide enough storage to run customized applications.
Compared to the x86 CPU (which is CISC-based), ARM7’s RISC design provides a more powerful computing engine with advanced communication functions, without generating heat or power consumption. Moreover, both controllers come with the uClinux operating system pre-installed with a variety of sample codes, offering programmers the ability to build programs right out of the box. These programs can also be developed on a desktop PC and easily ported to the controllers through a GNU cross complier.
